Hi all

Any opions or thoughts, good bad or ugly, on the Sea Rovers show ? I have my own which I will reserve untill I hear what some of you have to say.

Paul

I met Gidds, so the journey to MA was not a loss. I also had a chance to talk to some folks that I see only once in a while. I was disappointed that the "tech connection" was short seminars rather than equipment displays and seminars. But, overall, I was pleased.

However, I am still trying to decide if Gidds' comment "I thought you would be ..." was in jest or not.

i want to the show on saturday .. I had a lot of fun going to the talks during the day
and it was nice to see all the dive clubs in one spot. I bid on some fins and had a good time.

I went to the movie night .. and I thought it was a BIG let down. This was my first time at THE MOVIE NIGHT and I thought it was going to be that.. a movie night..

95% of it was talking and 5% movies. I walked out at 10:45 PM and felt let down.

The best part of the night was the VERY SHORT HD film (les them 15min)

over all if i was going to do it again i WOULD go to the day show and talkes
and i would skip the movie night.

thanks for the shirt paul....great slogan on the back...F off and dive:)

Gabriel...still looking for you...now I am just sorta offended bro.

I had a very good time, since this is my very first show i can compare it with any of the others done in the past, but i have to say i had lots of fun.

The talks were very helpful for me, i was very happy with all the speakers, i learn a lot about the wrecks of New England and i got even more interested in this kind of dive discipline, before i knew i wanted to explore this option, now i do not only know i want to but i will before the year is over.

At the Booths, very nice only one bad expereince with a sales person which i will refrain to mention who or from where he is since the next time i went to the same booth another guy helped me out answered all my questions and now i have his card and to the other guy i just have to say one thing guess who is getting the 4k sale from me, well certainly not you buddy.

In the other hand Paul from PG Dive super nice as always, going the extra mile for his costumers, Paul Thanks for the ligth, it was unnecessary, but very nice.

Stacy J. From MARES, another one super nice person cool patient and very helpful, she certainly helped me to make a desition of what kind of suit will fit my needs the best.

I have to agree with Green Manelishi, one of the best things that happened to me was finally meet Gidds, and other members of the SB.

I will like to congratulate peace dog for his film that was something, i enjoyed waching still on her keel, specially being a local one and seeing people like Captain Jim Sillivan and Jim Hicks who are the people i got my training from in it was pretty cool.

The film festival i found it amazing, Listening to people like the Halls or Mr. Waterman was something to remember, having the chance to spend sometime with this great personalities was very filling and the films very interesting it was very nice to have the opportunity to see side by side the films from the past when the U/W world was being first recorded in actual film to the great HD technology of this times, not to mention the IMAX 3-D which is out of this world, ( by the way if you have the opprtunitty to wach Deep See 3-D, do it i went to the premiere and i have to say the best U/W 3-D film done yet) over all a very nice experience to see people i had always admire and to meet others i never heard about it, but thanks to this show i was able to meet and now i will be looking for their work.

I just have one last thing to say.

Thank you Sea Rovers!

-Raf.

- Met and spoke for a while with Wayne Hasson (Aggressor Fleet) -- nice guy. Perhaps the best part of this conversation is that the wife now thinks a liveaboard trip is a good idea...nice job Wayne ;-)

- Film fest -- interesting selection of presentations. Phillipe Cousteau was an adept MC.

- Stan Waterman -- diving in the Greek isles for ancient wrecks. Started out slow, but enjoyed this. Also enjoyed the 60s footage used in Blue Water, White Death of the oceanic Whitetips feeding on a whale carcass. Stan is always entertaining.

- Bret Gilliam -- he announced his "retirement", which seemed pretty heartfelt. He remains a controversial figure, but is a funny guy. Slide show from the Solomon Islands was great.

- Howard & Michele Hall -- their video was kind of a big commercial for their new IMAX film, but some of the behind the scenes stuff was interesting.

- Emory Kristoff -- interesting deep sea arctic footage...although I have to say this was a little slow (he was last minute fill-in -- showing lots of raw footage). Very "mad scientist-like". Presentation was a little scattered.

- Wes Skiles -- interesting cave diving and St. John's watershed footage and background. Wes was cursed with a last time slot during one of the longer film fests I've been to....

I saw lots of good presentations, some of the ones I expected the least from were the best. I don't usually have much use for the exhibit hall, it doesn't really have critical mass of vendors and for any of the travel stuff I can find the info online.

We went to the film show the last 2 years but skipped it this year. We also got tired of it being so much talk. It's like the films are a way to pull in an audience for all the speeches and puffery which I imagine relatively few in the audience are actually interested in.

I never got out to see any of the show, but was able to poke around before the doors opened. All the booths looked pretty nice, and well stocked. I would like to thank everyone that stopped by the Brownstone Exploration and Discovery booth. We enjoyed meeting, and talking to all of you, and hope to see you all again when you come to dive with us! .........Hey gidds, did you catch the train this time?

Overall a very good weekend.

A lot of great information and toys at the booths.

I checked out three seminars:

Loch Ness by Martin Klein--great, Martin is a great presenter and related some great experiences.

Why Divers Die by Craig Jenni--good information regarding what really contributes to accidents (could have been a bit more focused though).

Chester Poling by Aaron Faulls--very nice film with background on the dive many of us enjoy. Looks like some folks seriously love commercial shipping items for home decor! ;)

Film Festival--Well hosted. A lot more talk than film, however. I really liked Stan Waterman's Greek Isles expedition from the 60's. HOWEVER...I found myself very disturbed by the part of the film noting the removal of a human bone from the wreak of a Greek naval vessal sunk in the World War II German invasion of Greece (for use to scare people at halloween?). Overall, some good stuff at the film festival but I think I could easily pass on it.

Wish I could have made more of the seminars...looks like a lot of good stuff I missed.
