Are there any tips or suggestions for an upcoming trip to Sea of Cortez? I've heard that it will be mostly large sea life and could get chilly. I'd appreciate any insights about the boat.

Thanks!
Teresa

I'm on the Nautilus Belle Amie in the SOC in August--first time diving there--so I'm following to see what folks say. The information packet Nautilus sent said water temps would be mid-80s but also said they recommend a 5mm or 7mm suit, which seems like a lot of neoprene for those temps.

I've dived the SofC on the Rocio a few times in the Aug/Sept timeframe. Most of the dives were 80 +/- deg with a few short-lived thermoclines to the mid-70s. I dived a 3mm with no trouble and did some dives in just a skin. Others on the boat ranged from 5mm to board shorts. The folks in board shorts did hunt warm water during the thermoclines, but it wasn't overly dramatic, just something to chuckle about between dives.

The sea lions were the stars of the show. Very entertaining. Also lots of gorgeous nudis, big seahorses, and large jawfish (very alien looking). Not real sharky but did see some. Snorkeled with the whale sharks at Bahia de Los Angeles on the last/"off gas" day.

I loved being on the top deck at night with the primary lights off. The skies were huge and clear. You could count satellites. It was like being in the desert, but on the water. :daydream: Have fun. :)

I'm considering this trip for this time next year and would love to get your thoughts on the trip.

Towel clips are great for attaching your wet clothes to the boat rail to dry them out faster.
