Hi, all-

I'm sure Divinman and Divekim will post a dive report on Scubapost, but since SOME OF US do not have access to Scubapost at work, I thought I'd post this here! I got a few nice pics, but I don't have a card reader or personal computer out here yet, so everyone, put on your imagination photo viewer...

The cast - usual suspects (Divinman, DiveKim, ChickofheSea) and me, the newbie to San Diego!
Location - Villacitos, 5:30 am
Surf - not bad, sets coming in maybe every 12-15 seconds (is that how you describe this?) with maybe 2.5 -4 ft waves. Waves were pretty gentle, though. I am feeling a bit more confident about surf entries, thanks to the encouragement of Divinman! I do still get a bit stressed, but not nearly as much as I was about a month ago.
Temp - 52 degrees (below about 45 ft) - a bit warmer in shallower waters.
Vis - not great, about 5 ft. But the surge was minimal until the end of the dive.
Max depth - 91 ft, dive time...I didn't look - an hour or so.

Nice swim out, the sun is starting to rise a bit earlier, so it was kind of light out. Lovely!

We dropped down in about 20 ft to swim out to the edge of the canyon, and I should have known what would happen when I saw a small (9 inches or so) live squid almost immediately.

There were scattered squid (most dead) and egg sacs, even at 50-60 ft depth - and as a result, there were sea lions. Lots of 'em!! I couldn't figure out who was making all that racket for a minute or two, and then I turned around to see about 20 sea lions - they came pretty close, playing and checking us out, and there was a big bull following Terry (Divinman) quite closely - he was wearing doubles, and as a result, was the biggest and most imposing of us...

Extra fun for the day - my fin must not have been all the way on my boot after the swim out, and I didn't notice...until my foot felt oddly light all of a sudden...I immediately began cursing, thinking I'd be buying new fins today...but fortunately, my fin was lying right there. Back on the foot, and moved on.

All in all, it was great - thanks yet AGAIN guys for welcoming me into the Dawn Patrol brood!!!

Now, I suppose I should do some work....good dives to all his weekend!

sounds like the squid run has begun. I was out on the X yesterday and the vis was 1 foot...glad to see the conditions improved:)

Okay Nate, I know you weren't looking for the Squid Eggs, but you didn't notice any as you whizzed by everything??

Yep, pretty sure that is what the Sea Lions are after. There were dead Squid being eaten by Whelks and another type of snail. I had wanted to go deeper once we were at the point to see if I could find the Egg Carpeting but the vis was so negligible it just didn't seem the prudent thing to do.

Maybe on Sunday we can find some out there, the full moon is Saturday so......

Have yet to see signs of a squid run here off Catalina this year after a fantastic one last year. Would love to look at any records for spawning run locations over the past 50 years.
