Good question... why doesn't PETA seem to be at the forefront of the shark finning issue if they are so concerned?

I have often wondered that. Why does PETA pick on a lonely fisherman surfcasting on a quiet evening releasing all his fish (both of them) and say nothing of the bunker boat who is steaming in with several tons of "bio mass" in the hold.

Because it's easier to find the guy on the beach, and more people can see their "efforts" on land.

PETA would do well to show some consistency. If they are truly worried about the fish in our lakes and oceans, they should advocate doing away with pets such as kittens.

PETA views pet ownership as the ethical equivalent of slavery. Unfortunately, whenever I try to emancipate my girlfriend's cat it just lies there on the couch. It seems to prefer three square meals and a warm bed to freedom.

Lesser of two evils, please - the shelters do a better job at placing animals.

Oh, it's worse that that, much worse. PETA raises money for these shelters, spends it on stupid ad campaigns, and kills the animals because it is their goal that no human should own, or eat any animal. The rest of the funds get funneled to terrorist groups like the Animal Liberation Front, which is an offshoot of PETA anyway.
They have been caught stealing peoples pets, and euthanizing them, here is one case where the dog owner was lucky enough to catch them before they killed his dog.

Just found this little tid bit on Wikipedia, thought it was worth sharing:

"In January 2009, a school named Spearfish High School was asked to change its name to Sea Kitten High School by PETA. In a letter to Steve Morford, principal of Spearfish High School, PETA said that the new name would 'reflect the gentle nature of its current marine namesake.' Morford didn't share his feelings about PETA, but said that he would not take the request seriously."

I have no idea if they mention this on the campaign website... but damn

Gentle nature? I thought fish ate other fish which hardly seems gentle too me. I guess this is what you get from people who watch Shark Tale and think they know marine biology.

Stealing a hunting dog? That sounds like a real good way to get shot to me. Those dogs are extremely valuable and the people who often own them can't afford to easily replace them.
