so i was just wondering if any has anthing to say about seabase utah..I was thinking on going diving there in two weeks.I guess they have a cover entry and exitand a couple sharks sounds cool inland..

I was at seabase a few weeks ago. The vis was really bad. Like 2 ft! The crater is much better and warmer! I have a pic of me at seabase freezing! It is too big to post. I dont know how to resize it

We dive Homestead Crater often, because we do our open water classes there.

Its worth one trip for a recreational diver, because its unique. Bring only a rash guard and swim suit. They do not allow t-shirts or wetsuits. You get to dive in a 65 foot deep hotspring, 92-96 degree water, good viz (60ft)in the morning, although there is not much to see. You must call and reserve your time-slot. You also need to fill out release forms and present your C-card. Dive classes throughout the day decrease the viz to about 20 ft. Its very close to Park City, so you can ski and dive!

You can stay in a motel in Heber City which is much less expensive then the Hotel at Homestead. If you want a fancy getaway, then stay at Homestead.
Altitude rules apply.

Its also expensive. Its $28 hour, which equals 1 dive. Tank rentals are extra.

We enjoyed Seabase when we were out there in August 2002. Check to see if you can still bring along romaine lettuce to feed the Angels, that was pretty cool! The vis was bad then due to an algae bloom that had died and settled on the bottom, they were working on vacuuming it out at the time. The bottom is coated with some sort of material, I'm not sure if it's concrete or what but I remember thinking "What the heck?" when I saw it. Got to pet the nurse sharks, that was really cool! It's a unique set-up and saltwater so it's definitely worth one "been there, done that" dive. Since it's fed by a hot spring the thermocline is upside down with the cooler water on top and the warmer water on the bottom.

Homestead Crater was also worth one dive. Gets kinda boring going around in circles for an hour but the warm water is a real treat. I was so hot in my skin (I get cold in a drysuit) I had the guy hose me down with cold water when I got out--it felt WONDERFUL!
