Hi guys and gals

Just a quick question. Does anybody know what water skills are evaluated in the SDI Instructor development course.

Could you also offer perhaps some advice on which agency to go with when looking to become an instructor. Is there much of a difference when you reach instructor level between the agencies.

Thanks

I really don't mean to sound like a smart ***** but you should do a search for this question about what agency to become an instructor with. It has been discussed in the past and some of the folks that posted in those discussions may no longer be active on scubaboard. If you don't search you will miss their persective on this question. There is a difference between the agencies at the instructor level. Each has its own philosphy or approach to training and you need to select an agency with a philosopohy similar to your to your own. The are pro's and con's to all of them depending on your concept of doing things.

Good luck!!

This may be old, but this is what I have,

Skin diving: Swim 800m continuously demonstrating reliable water comfort.
Ditch and Don: Mask, fins, snorkel, swim down at least 8 feet and ditch all gear. Ascend breath, descend don all gear and surface with a clear mask and snorkel with fins on properly.

Scuba Ditch and Don: In full gear descend to at least 8 feet. Remove mask, fins and scuba unit. Swim 25 feet underwater exhaling continuously, and surface. Take a few breaths and descend 25 yards back to equipment, don equipment and ascend slowly.

When looking for an agency its not quite as simple as that.
You need to consider WHERE you want to work in the world, HOW you want to work (dive centre or independent) and so on.
There is no "best" one size fits all agency.

For example one of the agencies (maybe SSI?) only allows affiliation from dive shops so independent is out and so on.

World wide in general PADI is probably the biggest regarding dive centre numbers etc. Certainly in the Mediterranean you wont get a job unless you're PADI. However, locally in other areas of the world thats different.

So, what do YOU want to do as an instructor?
