Does the brand (Ultra II, bargain, ...) really matter? Also is there advantage to purchasing several smaller cards...still pretty green around the gill.

These are different price levels within the SanDisk brand. I asked the same question of the salesman at Adorama. The Ultra and Extreme have faster read and write speeds than the basic card. The Extreme can supposedly work under extreme temperatures or rugged use. This spiel worked on me--I got the Extreme.

I have 2 cards, 2 gig each. If I'm not changing the lens, I can go a few dives without opening the housing.

Green around the gills or wet behind the ears?

I've had consistently poor performance from the Sandisk brand. CF, SD, Cruzer. Errors included losing the format after storing a bunch of data, corrupting the data that was there, poor speeds.

All my cameras see now is Lexmark. Not a single problem.

However, I do have a couple Sandisk adapter cards, that have given me yoeman service.

All the best, James
