I bought my wife a housing from canon for the SD 1200 is. She took it to blue lagoon today and tried it out both for photos and video. Man, for the money, I don't know if it can beat! Well, I'm no expert, but I do know what I see and hear. The sound on the video was incredible. Can't wait to get in some salt water with it. I didn't get to go with her because I am getting a vessel ready to do some post spill work for BP. Oh well, just thought I would pass on, about $350 total investment, outstanding video and pictures underwater. Not too bad!

yeah i have the same camera and i agree 100% with you. Before i had an Intova 600 and me and a friend (he had the SD1200) were on a dive and we took the same picture of a moray eel. i was so excited to see my picture and when we compared the two pictures, i wanted to cry, so i went out and bought this camera and i am totally satisfied considering I only paid $323. i will be adding a strobe to mine soon.

Todd,
When you get the strobe, let me know how you like it. My wife shot some more underwater shots and video while they were working on their advanced certification. She shoots a full sized Nikon on land but I think she is having more fun with this little SD1200. Probably cuz she's diving!

I hope to add the Ikelite AF-35 strobe to my canon SD 1200. I have read good comments about this strobe and i need something that is good and dependable. i will keep you posted.

I hate to revive an old thread, but I also have one of these cameras. I bought it last year in preparation for a regular vacation I was about to take.

Since I have started to dive more often I was curious about underwater photography and how well this camera works. I really like it for regular pictures on land. Do you guys still find that this camera and housing work well? Have you had any issues with either yet, such as leaks or bad pictures?

Well frankly i love this camera. It takes great pictures, but it is very limited when it comes to underwater photography. With that said, i have taken (what i think) are some really good pictures using this camera. I have the canon housing and i have never had any problems with it whatsoever. I have been using it for about a year now. As long as you take care of the O ring, lube it up after each dive it should be okay for you.

My wife takes her in the water any time she has a tank on. She has shot a lot of video just goofing off in the lakes. Great combo for the money. She is using the canon housing with the weight kit. We would buy another in a heart beat. We will get a strobe later on when we go on a big trip, but for now, the camera and housing are just fine for lake diving. The great thing is it takes great surface interval pics while sitting around as well.
