I use ScubaPro regs. Good solid performers. It all boils down to, where can you get what reg serviced where.

I paid less than $670 for the MK25/S600

Hi guys!

I'm looking to make my first real gear purchase.

In Asia at least, Scubapro gear seems to go for a decent premium to, say Oceanic and other brands.

I can get a Delta4/FDX 10 set up for around $450 or a s600/mk17 set up for $670. When I look at the spec, if anything the Oceanic is better.

So is it worth paying the premium for Scubapro stuff, is it really that much better in terms of quality and reliability (is there even a difference?) or is it just a label?

Assuming the above set ups are my choices, which one would people go for?

ST

The MK17/600 is a excellent reg suite for both cold and warm water, the mk25/s600 a very good breathing reg, it is environmentally seal piston. The oceanic Delta4 is a cold and warm water reg. Their quality are pretty similar. The difference in price is like getting Lexus LS vs. a Mercedes E class. They are both excellent cars, but one is a more luxurious marque. You are paying for the brand name as ScubaPro is the bigger name brand world wide. It comes down to a choice of personal preference. Either way you will get a great reg no matter which one you get. :crafty:

Worth paying extra? 30 years ago = yes. Today = no. It is no more advanced than the rest.

But... the world is voting against me. Looking at what used gear sells for, Scubapro typically brings top dollar. A good brand name and reputation last a long time; adding value in the market.

You can have plenty of fun and adventure while paying less than Scubapro. However, it appears you'll get some of the extra money back when you sell out.

PS

The last time in Asia, Thailand and Malaysia. Oceanic was not that common at the shops. So parts availability may be a slight issue. Oceanic has not gotten the market penetration in asia as it has in the US or even in Europe under the Seemann brand that is own by scubapros parent company johnson's outdoor.

I can't compare it to anything because I've only used ScubaPro. But, I did want to chime in and say I'm glad I spent the money initially because I really like my MK25/S600.

As mentioned, another consideration might be the ease of getting it serviced. In that respect Scubapro wins hands down. Huge network of centers. Really pays if you purchased from an authorised vendor and the reg has problems.

Plus, there is the coolness factor associated with Scubapro.

However, $670.00 USD is more than you should be paying. I too payed less for a MK25 S600.

PS

If Sherwood is available in Asia then you can get parts for the oceanic, as oceanic makes the sherwood regs. Just a thought.

Thanks for all the responses guys, very helpful. I think i'm leaning towards the Oceanic purchase, I know they have a dealer here in Korea (as well as Scubapro). By the way the other thing was the MK25/S600 was around $710. Not much difference to the MK17/S600....these are singapore prices by the way not Korea...in Korea you pay >$1100 for a Knighhawk BCD....it is cheaper for me to fly to Singapore, stay at a 5 star hotel for a few nights, buy a BCD/reg package and fly back to Seoul...that's how dumb people are here.

I would call Leisurepro or scubatoy and have them ship internationally if those are th local prices. That is super expensive.
