A stand alone T1 might sell to recreational divers, including those interested in tec, or to technical divers not yet getting a rebreather. By the time someone decides to pursue rebreather diving now, isn't he likely to already have a Petrel or other computer by then?

Is this not effectively sabotaging the T1's prospects?

Is there some angle I'm missing where this makes sense?

Most rebreathers I've looked at come with a computer. Also, I've got 2 petrel, but I'll have to replace them if I go rebreather because mine don't have the sensor ports. If I found a unit that didn't include a computer, I guess I could use the petrel with a rebreather and not have sensor information. If you're spending that much on a unit it seems silly to cut costs on the computer to me.

If you're looking ahead to a rebreather then getting a fisher port equipped Petrel to start with might be worth the extra $400 cost. On the other hand the resale market for Predators and Petrels is pretty strong and you're only losing a couple hundred dollars if you sell one on the used market later on.

If you already have a non external monitoring Petrel, and you need to get another fisher port equipped Petrel with your rebreather, or old one still isn't wasted. You can run it in CC mode without sensor monitoring based on high and low set points where it will provide useful backup deco information.

You can also get a Shearwater Petrel PO2 display for a lot less money upfront, but then upgrade it to a full CC external monitoring Petrel later by purchasing the unlock code.

A side benefit is that Shearwater is now fairly hesitant to let companies package their rebreathers with Shearwater electronics unless it is likely the company will be around several years down the road. They learned some things from the Titan experience.

The last classic shape DC form Scubapro (Aladin Prime) seems born from another era. As its name suggest, from the technology POV, it's really like an old Aladin Pro. Probably they found an old project buried in a drawer.

For what is worth, reading my old post I realized I cited the wrong computer: I meant the Aladin Square
