Hi.

I just purchased a brand new Scubapro S-tek harness and it came with a pair of somewhat unusual tank bands. The cinch buckle is the same, and there is an improved (it would seem) hook that has a roller and that leverages the tank band to the tank. However, all else that is different seems to me to be less desirable. The webbing of the tank band is thinner (not the width, but the thickness or gauge of the nylon)--this means that the bands are flimsier and that they will expand and contract more than usual between being wet/dry. Also, the loose, male Velcro end of the strap closes on the outside rather than the inside, which means that it can come loose more easily. Finally, the rubber gripper pad is almost exactly half the standard size (found on the typical Scubapro tank bands).

Does anyone know what the story is with these tank bands? Has anyone ever had a problem with them? I have never seen them before--and I am a minor Scubapro collector.

Thanks,
mahjong

Ps, I cross posted this to the "Tanks, Valves, Bands" forum.

I also have a question re this BC. Does scubapro still sell it? I don't see it in there website anymore

Scubapro has discontinued the S-tek line. The tank bands, however, are removable and my question needn't be limited to the S-tek (I have seen S-tek harnesses with the standard tank bands); in other words, a Classic could have been sold with the same tank band I am asking about. Thanks

Heard back from Scubapro: The tank bands are a new style--Adjustable Supersinch (2002) and supposed to be superior to the old style. The bands are not as thick, but they supposedly will not stretch after wetting (no need to wet them prior to buckling up). Also, even though the Velcro is on the outside, supposedly the Velcro is not even needed, as the new leveraging hook holds the band in place without the need for Velcro. Scubapro is reliable, so I've no reason not to give these bands a try.

Thanks,
Mahjong
