I also read something about missing service dates and getting charged extra?

They are not difficult to service but there is one "special tool" that is helpful and runs about 18 dollars. But getting parts/kits can be a challenge. Is it easy to service yourself or does it require special tools? Also, are the MK25s sealed?
No freezing due to cold water issues? Is it working OK for you in your waters during the winter?
I've used them under the ice and I've had them fairly deep (245') in Lake Superior. I've never had an issue. Most of my deeper stuff now is on CCR, but I've used the MK25 on OC without issues.
I just sorted my logbook by dives that were colder than 45°F when I was on open circuit. There are 120 dives and 32 were deeper than 165ft. 67 of these dives had a low temperature less than or equal to 40°F. I wish I could dive more, but these were all done using Scubapro MK25 first stages. As a side note, Mac-Dive is an excellent choice for electronic log books.Thank you for sharing this information and bringing out the truth. There has been so much misinformation on SP's piston regulators and their suitability for cold water diving from some SB members in the past.
I don't know, for sure, how SP does their parts anymore. It used to be "free" parts if you serviced them annually. I think that may have switched to every two years on parts. The last time I had my regs serviced I had 4ea MK25/G250V and one MK2 and I think it was around $56ea.Any idea what the average cost to service a 1st and 2nd stage is assuming only replacement of seat/filter/o-rings and not any broken permanent parts?
