I don't know what the latest warranty/service rules for the US market now for Scubapro. You will need to check with SP for this part. You don't get charged "extra" but perhaps you don't free parts for service if they still have this program in the US. AFAIK, in my part of the world, there is no free parts for life here and thus skipping the once every two years service schedule for SP isn't going to make a difference.

I have been using MK25/S600s for years with no issues. For the last two years, during the winter I've been diving in inland quarries (temperatures down to 4C) and never have had any issues with freezing/freeflows.

The Mk25/G250HP and the Mk25/G260V severed me well for diving in the tropics and in high elevation cold fresh water lakes, such as Yellowstone Lake at 7700'. The first time I dived in Yellowstone everyone's regulators free flowed except mine and a friend who uses Dive Rite's sealed reg.

I now use the Mk25EVO/G260 and have had no issues; tech and recreation, hot and cold water, summer and winter. A friend of mine has used her Mk25/S600 (with the metal barrel) for ice diving in mountain lakes with no issues. The Mk25/G260 has served me well in the surrounding mountain lakes while diving year around. Now that I use a full face mask for ice diving and PSD I use the Mk17 to meet the sealed first stage requirement.

The two most common set ups used here are the Mk25/G260 and Mk17/G260 or A700.

Is it easy to service yourself or does it require special tools? Also, are the MK25s sealed?
They are not difficult to service but there is one "special tool" that is helpful and runs about 18 dollars. But getting parts/kits can be a challenge.

No freezing due to cold water issues? Is it working OK for you in your waters during the winter?

I've used them under the ice and I've had them fairly deep (245') in Lake Superior. I've never had an issue. Most of my deeper stuff now is on CCR, but I've used the MK25 on OC without issues.

Thank you for sharing this information and bringing out the truth. There has been so much misinformation on SP's piston regulators and their suitability for cold water diving from some SB members in the past.

I just sorted my logbook by dives that were colder than 45°F when I was on open circuit. There are 120 dives and 32 were deeper than 165ft. 67 of these dives had a low temperature less than or equal to 40°F. I wish I could dive more, but these were all done using Scubapro MK25 first stages. As a side note, Mac-Dive is an excellent choice for electronic log books.

Any idea what the average cost to service a 1st and 2nd stage is assuming only replacement of seat/filter/o-rings and not any broken permanent parts?

I don't know, for sure, how SP does their parts anymore. It used to be "free" parts if you serviced them annually. I think that may have switched to every two years on parts. The last time I had my regs serviced I had 4ea MK25/G250V and one MK2 and I think it was around $56ea.
