Just purchased a R395 Octo to go on my MK25. I have the S600 as primary and love it so far. But for some reason, if (when testing) I fully press the purge on the Octo, it freeflows until I turn the VIVA knob back to 'predive'. Is there something wrong with it? Should I return or have it checked? In real life diving, I won't press the purge that far, but it still makes me nervous. My first post on here, so I'm hoping for some good advice! Also, if anyone has opinions about the positing on the 1st stage of the two 2nd stages (which should be closer to the front, on my left side) I'd love to hear thoughts on that too.

Thanks all.

That is exactly what a well tuned 2nd is supposed to do . That is what you would want your primary to do but it might be just a tad on the hot side for use as an octo but OK as long as it does not develop freeflow problems during a dive. Plus, as the seat takes a set it might slowly develop a bit more of a tendency to freeflow. If it does, it should take your tech no more than 5 minutes to detune it a little.

If you are routing normally, both 2nds attach on the right side, the primary 2nd will be one port to the front of the octo. The primary hose goes over your right shoulder, octo under and clips onto a D-ring on your chest.

Your octo is acting normally with the purge/freeflow. If you have a freeflow when you enter the water, just put your thumb over the mouthpiece to stop it. Once the reg fills with water it won't freeflow. You probably should leave the VIVA in the min position.
