Here is a Scubapro question for “all the usual suspects” or anyone else that may know.

What is the fitting on the left side of this Scubapro 108 second stage?

I remember that long exhaust on the very early 108, but I have never seen a fitting like that.

This is in this eBay auction:
Scubapro Regulator Vintage Scuba Pro Regulator No Res - eBay Regulators, SCUBA Snorkeling, Water Sports, Sporting Goods. (end time 28-Apr-08 01:06:13 AEST)

The right side looks just like the standard R108 with is just a simple down stream demand valve, not an upstream tilt valve.

I have never seen the fitting on the left (or whatever it is). I am wondering if it was something someone added and even then what is it?

Hmmm....I've seen the long exhaust T and the serial number sticker on the really early 108's but I have never seen a fitting like that.

Given the appearance of the chrome compared to the rest of the reg, I suspect it is an aftermarket modification. Still, I'm tempted to bid on it just to see what it is, even though it is in pretty crappy shape.

----

It does use a basic downstream tilt valve design, but it uses a different lever and valve arrangement than the later 108's.

Go for it…I would like to see some pictures.

I think this is the original Mk-5 before the balanced adjustable was introduced. If I recall correctly the MK-5 was first introduced with this first stage…then around 1968 or 69 the adjustable first stage was introduced.

I started working for a Scubapro dealer in 1971 and back then we sold the combination of the second and first stage together and the second stages were not labeled as a separate numbered item. The regulator was the whole unit (first and second stage)…we didn’t sell octopus either.

Luis,

That is the first time I have ever seen a fitting like that on a regulator. My best guesses would be:

A Left side port to attach lp hose and the fitting is actually a cap which would be moved to the right side. However, the size looks wrong.

B Early attempt by SP for a breathing resistance adjustment.

C It looks a bit like a hose fitting with the hose rotted or pulled away. As DA said, could be a home modification.

After we talk DA into buying it, we will all know.
