My wife and I ,for what it is worth, dive several Scubapro regulators including : MK 20 & 25; X650, Bal. Adj., G500 AND we love them all. NO problems with service, the manufacturer, nor anything. You can"t go wrong with SCUBAPRO. I am not a dive representative. Just love to dive, but not cold water......

Thanks for the responses so far. The dry mouth issue is something I hadn't really thought about as our Classics have metal "moisture vanes" inside the second stage to alleviate that. Another thing to consider I think.

So, is the MK17/G250V a current SP system offerring? Looking at their website I see the MK17 paired with the S555 and the MK25 paired with the G250 (as well as with the S600). Any idea/info on cost?

First of all, solve the problem of the miss-matched inflator/corrugated hose discrepancy.
Already taken care of - replaced the Shadow + with a shoter LP hose after the first dive.

Keep us posted.

I have used the Mk25/ S600 for a year or so now and find it is a great reg and has performed effortlessly down to depths of 80meters and more. It also works well in cold water down to around 6 degree c. I have found it ideally weighted and slightly easier on the jaw than my old G500 second stage.

I also find that the R395 second stage is a good performer and a bit cheaper.

trust this helps

Mike

its a fine reg, I had that set up but recently traded it for an Apeks DS4/TX50 setup. I have several of these Apeks setups and decided to make all my regs the same...(except fro MK2+ for argon) for rebuild kits. I do like the Apeks over the SP simply for their basic design. There are many more parts in a Mk25 than there is in an Apeks. If you buy the SP, you wont regret it due to a quality issue.

I never thought the dry mouth thing had anything to do with a regulator. Just the fact that the air in the tank was dry. SO I was more than happily surprised after I learned that tidbit of information and even more so when I got my G250V.

The MK17/G250V combo is kinda special I reckon, since they dont come from Scubapro paired like that, but it's what a lot of people dive. Any Scubapro dealer or LDS can get that system from Scubapro that way, all they have to do is specify what they want. Or, if they stock the MK17 as well as the G250V they can put together a package deal for you. Simply tell them that's what you want! My LDS didnt carry the G250V when I wanted the system, so that's all they had to order. Took maybe a week to get them. As for prices....Hopefully without starting a price war or something, I've seen them in the $450-$650 range for a MK17/G250V combo. I got a great deal from my LDS because I bought two of the systems for my doubles setup. Walked out without spending over a grand I dont believe. It's all about the haggling!

Enjoy!

Who's your LDS? I'm in west Palmdale.

I have the mk25/s600 and have been very happy for the three years I've had it. It has worked well in warm and cold water (down to mid-40s) without a problem.

I dive the MK17 with various 2nd stages. Switched from the MK25 to the MK17 over 1 1/2 years ago due to its sealed design, small and lightweight size, versatility and ease of rinsing and maintenance. Absolutely love it and I'm a diehard Scubapro fan!
