I think he's talking about Balanced Regs...

Fit, balance, features, comfort, weight pockets, D-rings. All in all,
I think it's a very mediocre BC. If I could do it all over again, I would
have rather had a Ranger, or something that could double-duty as a
tech rig.

It also has a tendedency to trap air here and there. Of course, running
4 lbs with no wetsuit in Kauai made the bottom-lung breathing a little
more critical with a 3AL 80 at low tank pressure. The Steel LP-85's I
just picked up will mitigate that somewhat. I'll have to post that intro
later, out of time for now.

Maybe...?

how do you guys think that sb reg compares to the aqualung legend lx, im going to upgrade soon and cant seem to make up my mind, ill read one thread in which everybody puts aqualung at the top, and then i read other threads like this one where everyone says that sb is the best?? i currently use a mares proton so im sure either will breath better than what im using now but of course if im going to spend the money id might as well get the best i can get for that price range

I prefer SP regs based on long standing (21 years and counting) use, ease of service and a general bias that comes with greater familiarity with SP regs.

I think in terms of brute performance, nothing beats a Mk 25 first stage and I think that in terms of a fully sealed do it all well first stage, nothing beats a Mk 17. I like Sp's balanced second stage designs (G250HP, S550, S600 and X650) as they are excellent performers and I like high degree of parts commanality that SP has in their second stage line up.

That said, the Legend LX is also a great reg. In my opinion whether you go with a Legend LX or a comparable MK 17 S600 or Mk 17 X650, you'll have a fine reg. The Mk 17 has a slight edge in cold water and I prefer the SP regulator in terms of ease of maintenece but the differences are otherwise not significant.

My bad. I shouldn't have asked about the Balance. I forgot this was in Regulators not in the General Equipment forum. He just had such a strong opinion I was curious.
