Howdy all,

This reg set is being offered from Leisure Pro for a whopping $259 US. I'm considering the R380 octo for it, but I have an axis octo I can use unless there's a good reason not to. Any good reason why I shouldn't get it?

I did a search and came up with lots of people recommending the MK25/600 combo, but I'm liking that this 1st stage is supposed to be very cold tolerant since I'll be quarry diving all summer.

Thanks,

Rachel

I have 2 MK16/S550s and love them.
I also have 2 Mk20/S600, r380.

I love them all.

The S550 is tolreant of cold water; Very true but so is the MK25.

The ATX40 is also on LP for $199.95... and the DST is a sealed first stage, whereas [I think] the MK16 isn't. I keep hearing stories about SP first stages freezing, but that might just be the MK25. I also believe the SP second stages have covers that don't simply unscrew like the Apeks, making it difficult to take off a cover and rinse out the reg underwater (or even above). Something to keep in mind.

be very careful buying dive gear from leisure pro. i called atomic aquatics and scubapro and found out your buying their products on the internet without their certified warranties. aeris computers also dont honor warranties from non dealers(that includes LP). i too was enticed by their low prices but be very carefull!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i suggest you go to the manufactures website and read the warranty page carefully. i eventually bought my atomic reg and areis computer from local dive shops.

This has been discussed ad nauseum on every scuba related site ever.

The gist of it is this:

1) Manufacturer warranties are generally worth significantly less than the actual cost savings by buying online

2) LeisurePro will honor the original manufacturer's warranty themselves anyway (ie, replacing a defective part)

3) You will have to pay for yearly service and parts, which isn't that much considering (depending on manufacturer), the warranty would only cover parts OR service every year or two, meaning you would save like $30 every two years.

No warranty = no big deal.

Since no one told me not to, I went ahead and got this. I also picked up a R190 octo.

I only have 2 local SP dealers and one of them I don't like and the other, although they seemed quite pleasant on the phone, were trying to talk me into the MK25 which I specifically didn't want because it's a piston and the MK16 is a diaphram. They wanted $200 more than the LP price and would have to order it anyway and offered me no particular perks like free 1st year annual service or fills or anything and I have no particular relationship with them.

If my normal LDS was a SP dealer, I might very well have bought from them, but they aren't so I went with the deal.
