I came across 2 ScubaPro MK16/G250hp combos with Suunto guages and need some input. Since I am not familiar with ScubaPro (my lds doesn't carry it) I'd like to find out if I wasted my $. They look like they have never seen the water.

Any users of this combo have input/info?
What do they sell for new/used?
Are they a current model?

Any info would be helpful.

That combo (MK16/G250hp) is not listed in the current consumer catalog from Scubapro. It has the Mk16/S550 MSRP @ $440.00. In their catalog the G250hp comes with the MK25 a piston design, the MK16 is a balanced diaphragm. The MK25/ G250hp MSRP is $550.00. Last years LeisurePro catalog has the MK16/G250hp for sale at $339.95. I have the MK16 /R380 and love it. The G250 is arguably a better regulator, but I have used both and can’t tell any difference. Could it be I’m not a real sensitive guy!?!
This link may be a help.

I also don’t think you can get much more dependable than the SP’s.

Great equipment. Usually people get the MK20 or MK25 with the G250. But I am sure the G250 still works great.

Balanced Diaphram vs Balanced Piston... hmmm... big debate / opinion!

They are both current. We sell everything with a MK25, but usually sell the MK16 with the S550, great selling package.

I just had them checked out at a ScubaPro dealer in town and they said they were new and unused! They said the retail on the set was about $600 ea. My LDS won't be to happy but I just couldn't pass it up (they would have done the same thing.) The only down side is they have just one HP port.

I forgot to ask if they are nitrox ready to 40%. Anyway, I got a great deal and an extra set!

Thanks for the Info guys!

That's the exact combo I use, love it! Just got done doing 4 dives in 42 degree water down to about 40 feet... It breathes really well and is very rugged.

Congratulations on the find!

Hey MNScuba,

How do have the ports configured? The MK16 has one HP port (mid), one HF LP (high flow low pressure) port (bottom), and an LP (top) port on the left; then one LP port (top), one HF LP port (bottom) on the right.
Mine has the right side configured with the g250 on the top standard LP port and the octo/safe 2nd on the HF LP port. Shouldn't these be switched?

Hmmm, not sure about that one... I use the Air2 setup. I can get an answer for you today though on the 'best' way to set this up.

Hang tight!

Here's the reply I received, hope this helps!

That shouldn't be that way. If I, or someone else had put it together, or if the factory sent it that way, it should be reconfigured. It's not an issue that you can differentiate though, you can't tell the difference on performance (unless your really into extreme diving, way beyond recreational limits). But I do recommend changing it.

The HFPort, because of physics, is designed that it provides as much as 15% greater flow through that port. This isn't obviously needed on the inflator hose side. They didn't necessary make it that way on purpose at first, it just naturally was an advantage when the compact size was designed.

What makes the MK16 special besides that it is very great performance in a small size and extreme environments, is the flow rates. The MK16 flows at 177 SCFM (that's 177 cu. ft/min squared)!! No other diaphragm style in the world even comes close to that!! I'm serious, it's a remarkable achievement. (Most hope to get 100-110 CFMS - even some very high end - Atomic for example, can only achieve that). That really provides extra comfort on multiple breathers, deep dives, heavy currents, etc.

I'll change the g250 to the HFPort & the octo to the standard LP port. That's what I figured but I wanted to be sure. I do some extreme diving and intend on doing more technical diving in the future.
