Scubapro Knighthawk cumberbund size

First, thing is I go from a 52-54 chest to a 38 waist. That being said, I purchased a used but in excellent condition SP Knighthawk. The straps fit great over my chest and shoulders, but the cumberbund is WAY to big. The Velcro sections go completely past each other. The waist strap can be adjusted, but not the cumberbund. Someone recommended to take it to a shoe repair shop and have them sew the extra material over on itself therefore making the bund shorter. (Shoe repair because the have the heavy duty sewing machines)

Recommendations/suggestions/comments?
