My LDS has a one G250HP with MK25 for $389. compaired to the $600. G250V with MK25. I'm thinking for a spair, it's not a bad deal. Worst case, I'll put the my old G250 together with MK25.:D

The 250 HP is a bit excessively complex but does have the great performance of almost any Scubapro balanced poppet design. The extra complexity is more a service problem than a reliability or performance problem. For that cost difference, I would not have any doubt.

In fact, for the $$ you would be saving, you could put that plastic POS in the drawer and find an old metal scubapro Balanced Adjustable and be better off all around.

That's what I was thinking, couldn't pass up the deal.

The G250V accomplishes the same thing with a much simpler approach where the purge button can be rotated and locked in the a slightly "in" position.

My wife and I both have the MK25 and G250HP, bought new in 2005. The purge button also rotates and locks slightly in. I store them between dives locked in.

Do not listen to this non-sense, :shakehead: Awap is trying to corner the market on plastic regulators so that when all the brass and chrome ones dissolve away he will be in a position to capitalize.

Avoid chrome and brass second stages at all cost. If you have one already, send it to me for proper disposal.

The G250HP works great, but as everyone else is telling you it's got some extra crap. It's also missing the nice metal air barrel which does add a little moisture to the air, and I think the metal barrel also adds some smoothness to the breathing, but that's pretty subjective. There are two versions of the HP; I think it's version "B" that has the anti set thing that's problematic.

If your old G250 is in good shape, just use it on your MK25 and either sell the HP (You'll get a really good price on a new HP on ebay) or use it as your octo. That has the added appeal of demonstrating the superiority of older gear.

My son tells me he wants to learn to dive which we have done in the pool under supervision. He's 15 yrs old, so I'm thinking of letting him use the new gear, I'm partial to my old G250.:D

I have a slightly used MK25 (1st stage) that I just got today (before doing my homework). I should have read more Scubaboard first! I realize now that I need a MK17 because I dive COLD water. I have @$170 in it and would like to sell it or trade for a MK17. If anyone is interested, PM me.

After reading more posts, it looks like I want to setup a MK17 with the G250.

I wonder how you can tell which version you have ?
Mine also has the twist purge button
(with the last ones I would think you would not have one of the ones with the no air press, no pressure on seat)

$389 for a new G250HP/Mk25 is a good price .. I payed that much 4 years ago at my LDS for a G250HP/Mk18 (was being discontinued for the G250V)

On the S600 (little brother of the G250HP) the two versions differ externally on the size of the cracking pressure adjustment knob. It looks like that knob is a somewhat larger diameter on the older versions. I only have older versions of the S600 and the knob is just a little under 1 inch in diameter.
