I plan to buy a Scubapro Classic. Heard good things about it. Is there anyone here know about the advantages?
Thanks

I bought mine before they were called "classic" in 1988. I believe it was the only style they sold. Mine is the blue one. Back then they only had Black, Blue, and Orange. It's a great BC, I would like to replace the waist strap and replace it with a cumberbund though. It would be more comfortable. Can't hurt it and you can hardly wear one out, although I know someone who has worn out two of them, it takes a lot of dives. I have never had problems.

Thanks for the suggestion, Dennis. Currently, I used SeaQuest but I consider to buy Scubapro Classic as you add good suggestion about it after some of fellow divers suggest it, too

Actually, the Scubapro Classic isn't really the "classic." Scubapro is an excellent company, but they do tend to try to confuse us with names and sizes. The old style "classic" BC Dennis uses is now sold as the Sport. The Classic has more bells & whistles. It comes with a cummerbund and comfort padding along the spine. These features make it very comfortable, but they eliminate one of the biggest advantages of the "classic." The Classic is not streamlined. Fortunately, this advantage is still available using the Sport. If you never dive in moderate or strong current, this may not be a consideration. It is a major consideration for me. We had a moderate current today off Pompano, I was glad not to have the bells & whistles. The other major change between the Classic and the "classic" is the new Classic is weight integrated. Lots of folks love weight integrated, I dislike it for many reasons.

Thanks Walter,
I visited Scubaproweb site and found 2 differents type of Scubapro Classic, the first one is Classic Plus and the other is Classic Sport. It seems that the Sport one looks like the old Classic, as you mentioned before.
The Plus actually has almost the same look as Classic but has a different buckle and pocket, of course with different "marketing purpose" features that Scubapro offer :))
Anyway, thanks for the valuable info

It was first bc for both my wife and I. It gave us 500+ trouble-free dives. I loved the big, easy to reach pockets. The natural "hug" of a jacket-style bc helped my wife become comfortable diving. I still use it for St. Clair river dives. When some pocket stitching began to unravel, Scubapro fixed it promptly for free.

That said, I now use a superhawk almost exclusively because, as Walter said, it is not streamlined.

That's funny, I took off the cummerbund and replaced it with a simple webbing waist strap.

Overall a very good BC.

rcohn, Interesting, why did you change to the simple webbing waist strap? I thought I might be more comfortable with a cumberbund, maybe I should just leave my BC alone.

Dennis,

You will be more comfortable with a cummerbund. A padded spine pad will make the BC more comfortable yet. Both of them come at a price. The price is increased drag.

Sorry Walter I disagree.

You can't feel the padded spine pad with a 7 mm wetsuit or drysuit on. I don't even notice any difference at all with a 3 mm wetsuit. Since according to ScubaPro the pad adds some positive buoyancy, I removed it.

I just don't like cummerbunds. They ride up over my lower rib cage, interfere with breathing, and I find it harder to keep them tight enough to to prevent the tank from shifting. The simple webbing belt sits below my rib cage and seems to hold the BC more securely. This might be just me, but I've tried it both ways prefer the simple belt. Obviously with the popularity of cummerbunds many divers prefer them.

I've noted some of the shops here in New England are now selling the Classic without the cummerbund or backpad so maybe it isn't just me after all.
