Hey guys i am thinking of making Scuba diving as my future job, can i check with you guys on the Salaries of Divemaster and Instructor,i know people say it depends but at least you tell me after working for
5 years: US$2000per/month
10 years: US$4000per/month
Somehting like that ^^

Btw i am currently living in singapore.

Jonathan, Salary is hard to predict and is very dependent on where you live/work and how you define compensation. A divemaster working on a live-aboard gets room and board plus a tiny salary and a share of the tips at the end of the trip. The same person working on a day charter boat doesn't get room and board and the combined salary and tips may or may not be very good (some folks who do day charters don't know to tip the crew). If you're working out of a land based shop where the local diving is good and it's a tourist destination then you may be able to pay your bills with what you make (please note that as a divemaster your salary may be more in the form of gear discounts rather than cash). Some folks manage to make a living working as instructors, others just find that it pays for their diving. Most of the instructors that I know are not in it for the money.

I'm probably bringing in $3000

per year...

My expenses are probably in the $2995 per year range....Hey, I made enough for a gallon of gas!

I only wish I were joking.

I hate celery.

If you find the right tropical vacation location and become the consumate, at-your-service divemaster always going above and beyond, always finding cool stuff, giving it 100%, you will likely get fat and happy from tips.

You have to be outgoing, communicative, healthy, and know that you are the very face of the resort and operation. Have a repair kit, sliced fruit & icy water, spares, and some extra weight in your BC.

Many DM's get tired, forget to understand that "they're on" and slack off. Many of them fall into drinking heavily, often using the guests as an excuse. Socialize, but stick with CocaCola. Keep your expenses low and your energy level high. remeber- you are competing for jobs with local people who already have a place to sleep there.

Plan on what you will do when your ears implode.

Celery isn't bad but the utility company tends to frown when I send it as payment for my light bill. Overall, not too bad. Watch for the hard times...right now for example, I am going to have to cut my butler back to 4 days a week. My chef is getting pretty creative with the celery though. :D
