80,000 new certs a year - 95% drop out rate + the fact that in order to be considered "active" all you have to do is dive one a year = no shows.

Some folks dive as much as I play minature golf, but i wouldnt wanna see a show about that!

Wildcard:
It just blows my mind that this still hasen't been done. PADI Claims 800,000 new certs a year yet we have no regular dive shows. Im thinking a weekly show highlighting a couple of dive locations, new gear, safety and environmental awarness would be a huge sucess. As big as PADI is on sales they have missed the boat entirely on this one.
Anyone on here own a TV network? LOL...How would one go about suggesting this?

I've had a daily (weekdays only) television show on diving here on Catalina Island for several years. Of course you have to be on the island to receive it on Catalina Cable TV Channel 49 at 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Also an hourly segment on Channel 3 with my footage.

Not quite ready for prime time, but with a little editing and new narration...

In addition to Destination Diving (I get it on our local PBS station), there is Divers Down which is based in NE - I get it on NESN as part of a DirectTV sports package. There is a spearfishing show out of FL (not for me) and several other shows that have lots of diving in them like Deep Sea Detectives and Mysteries of the Deep and many shows that occasionally have diving in them - Tivo is your friend. There are also a fair number of local public access cable shows devoted to diving - in northern Virginia Ocean Quest TV is available in Fairfax and PW county. As far as a national network show devoted to diving, there are few national shows about non-competitive recreational sports. Why should diving be any different?

Da*n it, we need more flashy clothing line and hot babes in two-piece, just like the way surfing community portrays themselves.
Come to think of it, Bill, Tina got her store on the pretty right idea, all she needs to do is to fix that place up a little bit... =D

DementialFaith- I can just see it now. Sports Illustrated's annual "women in wetsuits" issue!

Karen was out yesterday and spotted a pair of courting black sea bass for me to film (I was distracted by the moray on the swim platform).
