So, to drag up old posts, what book was Sam writing, and is it available, also, does anyone know how this story ends? I knew Doc from years of diving at Vortex and have heard the story from his side for over 20 years now. Very curious.

I don't know if Sam ever published his book or not or if Dockery was able to get a hold of him in the end, but Doc passed away in 2014 and Sam recently in 2023.

I have old motion pictures of shipwreck salvagers from Scapa Flow in 1919-1924 that show a the alpha and what appears to be a red square flag on a metal buoy. Fast forward to Pearl Harbor in the 40s and we see a tugboat mast arrangement flying two balls and a diamond along with a alpha flag but no red square flag.

But I do have a Diver down flag from 1958 from a friend who worked at Doc's shop in Flint.
