Question?

I have come to realize that taking up Scuba when you don't drive is a problem.
(NO not suspended, Just don't drive)
For Example.....Open Water Weekend

I can go on bus to my destination and camp for the two days or get a hotel.
I can pay for taxi rides to and from the River.

What I can't do is get two tanks 100 miles from my home Saturday, get back to
refill and then get the tanks back the 100 miles for Sunday mornings.

I would first like to say that .....My Problems are not my LDS Problems...!!!
I did ask if I could pay them to bring me tanks....They don't do that.

So....This is my Question?
If i deal with one of the Many dive shop's along the St. Lawerance, This should
make my tank problem go away?
Just like if i was flying somewhere warm, I would have tanks available right there??
Sorry for the real Newbie Question. CWN

Rent a tank from a more local shop. You will need to get the shop that is certifying you to call ahead however.

Thank you for your reply

Yes I am sure i can make my OW weekend work...I'll rent a car.

In general though...I will be able along the river to get around my little
problem.?
I guess the question is . The dive shop's along the river or on the lakes
could better help me deal with this situation?

You can ask the shop that is certifying you to put you in touch with other students or leaders for that weekend to arrange carpooling and sharing rooms. If they have their own online forum, you can post an ad looking for people to carpool and/or share a room. This happens routinely even on the first o/w dives.

When people are renting tanks or gear, they often get them from the dive shops in the area. There are many dive shops in the St. Lawrence and all are equipped to rent you gear or fill your tanks. There is no need to go far to fill tanks - they can be filled right there at the St. Lawrence dive shops.

Since you are not certified yet, you may have a hard time renting a tank unless your instructor vouches that you are in a class. You should find out what shop your instructors are using for fills and go to that shop for your rental and fills.

If you're doing o/w dives, chances are you'll mostly be doing shore dives, which are a bit spread out from the dive shops and accommodations around the St Lawrence. Carpooling or renting a car would be a lot easier than trying to get taxis.

Hope that helps...

That is Perfect

I will do what i have to do for the open water weekend...Then im certified
I can take my courses through dive shops that are right there..

I have looked and seen a few but , there are i am sure a lot of dive shops.
I had buddied up with a guy in my class but i couldn't go the weekend he was
going..:depressed:

Well ....I will put this out there ....After my Cert..Any one wants to go diving?
I pay for Transportation from the Ottawa area!!!

Dude, if it's a "la bonita chiquita" then you pay
and with a dude you share the costs, due to your sunny disposition, GSOH and organizational skills.

Thank you

Those shops work for me and i also found Riverside dive resort....!!

I can even get a bed there. This was great , thanks for the help.
