Hi everyone.

This is my 1st post.

My family of 4 will be on a 12 day Mediterranean cruise in late June / early July. We will be in Dubrovnik from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. one day, and in Messina from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. a different day.

My husband and 14 year old daughter received their OW certification a year ago, so they are newbies (since certification my husband went on a dive trip from Grand Cayman, and my daughter from Grand Cayman and Cozumel).

I want to set up a dive trip (2 dives) in an area near one of these two ports. Is there better diving near Dubrovnik or Messina? Is there both shore and boat diving near these ports? It sounds like the Dubrovnik may have a rocky coastline? We need to find a dive operator who speaks English, is in close proximity to the port, and offers diving in locations with good visibility and marine life. We do have limited hours since we will be on a cruise. My son and I hope to snorkel as well, if possible.

Thanks, in advance, for the advice!

Hi Carole,

I've been visiting Dubrovnik, though not on cruise.
The cruise-ships anchor near the old part of Dubrovnik.
The (new) habour is at the other side of the town.
I can't remember having seen a diving centre near the old part.

We were located about 18km south of Dubrovnik in Cavtat.
And I did some diving with

Don't know how tight your time schedule is, this might be an alternative.
They did 2 dives a day, all boat dives (at 10AM and 3PM)
English was no problem.
Visibility was good, as well as the water temperature.
There is some marine life but not spectacular.
But than they might want to dive an amphora field ;-)

You could try :

Who are located in Dubrovnik, though on the other side of the town.

Rgds,

Danny

Thanks Danny!

I will check out both links. I'm sure we can get transportation to wherever we need to go once we're off the ship. Our ship unfortunately doesn't arrive until 10:00 a.m. which is a bit late, I realize.

Does anyone else have suggestions on which has better diving.... the area near Mesinna, Sicily or the area near Dubrovnik, Croatia? If so, any suggested dive locations / operators?

There is a diving center in Dubrovnik:
DIVING CENTAR DUBROVNIK
20000 DUBROVNIK
I. Zajca 35
Croatia
Tel: +385 20 435 737
Mobile: +385 98 427 963
Web: diver.vdu.hr (don't think it works right now)
email: diver@vdu.hr

Or epidaurum in Cavtat (next to Dubrovnik):
web: http://www.epidaurum-diving-cavtat.hr/
email: epidaurum@du.t-com.hr
tel: +385 20 471 444

they both have some nice diving very near by (5min ride with a boat)

try them and you won't regret it...
