Hey there, I'm reading Shadow Divers, which is a nonfiction book about some divers that discover a U-Boat off the coast of New Jersey and work to identify it and discover its legacy. I was wondering if there are any other books out there, preferably nonfiction, that heavily involve diving in one way or another. I love a good adventure, especially when it involves my passion.

Deep Descent, and Dark Descent. Same author - Kevin McMurray. One is about the Andrea Doria, the other about the Empress of Ireland. Wonderful reads, and even more so for divers. Better writing than The Last Dive.

The Last Dive, by Bernie Chowdhury.

Sobering.

I read The Last Dive as well and agree that's a great one word description.

Another book I recommend is Neutral Buoyancy by Tim Ecott. It's not for everyone, but I found it extremely intriguing. It's basically an overview of underwater exploration and the underwater experience. Lot's of interesting real stories.

While there's not a TON of diving in any of them, I'm starting to think that James Rollins feels some compulsion (and possibly looks for an excuse) to make some kind of mention or reference to diving in every book, one with a short underwater fight with scooters, a bunch of people in matching color-coded wetsuits and big guns, in another what somebody was wearing was compared to a drysuit, and in another somebody got a plague-type disease after diving in a bacteria-infested area of the Indian ocean (i think). Apparently he's a diver though, so that probably explains the recurent mentions. Good books if you like thrillers though.

The Last Dive, Caverns Measureless to Man, definitely.

Also,Wreck Diving Magazine. It's not a book, but the articles read like them, especially the Cris Kohl ones.

Also Stars Beneath the Sea (Pioneers of diving), and William Ratigan's Shipwrecks and Survivals.

Hell Diver's Rodeo, about spearfishing the oil rigs in Louisiana. The Cave Divers, The Darkness Beckons are all good. Caverns Measureless to Man is a favorite. As you can tell, there's a certain theme to my diving :)
