Hey everyone,

As a new diver (currently going through my certification). I was looking to ask for a scuba magazine subscription for Christmas.

What are some of the more popular magazines... your recommendations?

Thanks,
Colin

Dive Training by far the best for entry level and you can get 6 months for free from your instructor.

Thanks David! Looks like a great magazine

That offer is only available for residents of the United States (as most good deals are lol) :dontknow:

During October 2010, on the Scubaboard Basic Scuba Discussion forum, there was a useful thread about scuba magazines:

http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/basic-scuba-discussions/356288-scuba-magazines.html

When I scan the magazine shelves, I find too many of today's scuba titles reading like travel brochures or "advertorials". Personally, I yearn for those early 1950s issues of "Skin Diver" and "Neptune/Triton" where people dived and snorkelled in their own locality rather than tropical resorts. But that's just me.:)

I find British diving magazines, on the whole, punchier. But clearly they focus more on British issues and places British divers tend to go. I have subscribed to Diver off and on for about 30 years, and they usually put good value into each episode.

Dive Training (I get it at my LDS or my usual dive site for free)
Diver (Canadian magazine, eh)
Alert Diver (DAN's magazine, got a LOT better since Stephen Frinck took over!)
Wreck Diving (just awesome!)
Advanced Diver (although only online now)

Sport Diver & Scuba Diving are pretty bad, if you want a "travel" based magazine, they aren't bad, but as far as diving info? not good! Letting the sub's run out this time around.....

Diver has some good articles, and a column (or at least they used to) from Dr. David Sawatzky, which is very good.

My current favorites are all on line -- Advanced Diver Magazine, Underwater Journal, and Quest (which you have to join GUE to read).
