I wake up in the middle of the night screaming from that dream..

Will it ever go away?

10tigers, in the Cozumel forum there is a frequent poster named Christi. I don't know her but I do know that she moved to coz as an instructor and is now the owner of BlueXTsea diving. Maybe go ask her some questions, I'm sure she could give you some insight.

10tigers:
So this is what I gathered so far about becoming an instructor:
1) I must love Ramen
2) I need to dive more first
3) Win the lotto

Tiger, i am living your life dream. Have been doing it since early 99, i really love Ramen! Eat it almost everyday...

I still love it, i am an instructor but haven't taught anything other than photo or nitrox since 99. Mostly on the liveaboards it was guiding and everything else, now adays its shooting photo and video. Still don't make a fortune so the lotto would be good.
I don't regret it at all but i'm only 33, who knows what i'll think when i'm 50.
But by that time i should have replaced Doubiliet at Nat Geo.... ;)
All this talk of dives dives dives...how many do you have? I think you are probably wanting to be more of a guide than an instructor correct? Hanging out in Koh Tao or some such place.
I tell you what, its more about attitude, discipline, people skills, optimistic and catchy personality, and of course the ability to lead and watch and pay attention. I have seen much better divers who have 50 dives than some who have 500 or even 5000. Don't let people tell you you need x number of dives before you can become a dive pro/dive master etc. If its what you want to do than go for it. Find a place/person like Cancun Mark who (from what i hear) is an excellent teacher/mentor. That is what you need, go live the life, follow your dream and take what comes as it comes. You'll only regret what you haven't tried!

Best
Mike
