I went to the previous one, and had a great time. They were overwhelmed by the turnout (standing room only), so they're doing a repeat for those who missed out. I'm going again!

Because of the Overwhelming Success of the 1st Open House held on March 30th there will be a second Open House Tuesday July 13 at 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Scripps Institution of Oceanography for those divers that did not attend the 1st event. . The purpose of the event is to let divers see the collections and learn how the specimens are used by the scientific community, and how important this collection is to all of us as divers. We are asking that those divers who went to the 1st Open House in March tell those who didnt go what a great time they had and get them to go.
There are five major natural history collections at Scripps: three biological, and two geological. Each is unique, reflecting to a large degree the research interests of the Scripps scientists and staff who worked to build them. They also represent the tangible results of the expeditionary voyages of the Scripps fleet over the years. Together the Scripps Collections comprise the largest, most complete natural history repository devoted to the study of the worlds oceans.
The Marine Vertebrate collection alone contains over 2,000,000 specimens representing more than 5,300 species.
This is a rare opportunity to view some of the specimens, as well as to see how they are cared for and stored in the buildings that house the collections. .
Representative samples of the various parts of the collection will be on display, and tours of part of the building will be available.
There is no charge. We are asking that those wanting to attend let us know, so that we may plan accordingly.
