"Get your money back if you can, but don't do the weekend class.

All a weekend class will do is scare the c*** out of you and guarantee that you'll never dive again."

This is amazing. We supply weekend classes and have many people who pass with out a hitch. yes it's true that some need more time. That is why our shop offers for ou to come back as many times as it takes until you are comfortanle.

The guy is nervous about diving, and more class and pool time will probably fix that, but you dump on me for recommending a longer class, then in the very next sentence say that your weekend classes can run longer if necessary?

A rushed weekend class with the option of coming back for more, is not the same as a class that's designed to be slower. And having a weekend class four times is not the same as having an 8 week class.

If you scare someone badly enough in the fast class, they won't be back, ever.

Dude, as you sit here reading this blow all of the air out of your lungs. Hold your breath. Get up and walk around the house a little. Maybe do a little exercise. That is how long you have to find your regulator. Or your Octo. Or your buddies octo. Or the surface.

You're overthinking things, making them into a bigger deal than they are. Scuba just isn't that hard. I've seen 10 year old kids and 70 year old ladies successfully complete the standard open water course. Take a breath and relax.

I know OP has now passed his OW cert :clapping: but i just wanted to add a note about another student that was struggling in hubbys class

my hubby had 6 students last month.... one of them didnt make it thru her pool work but instead of getting out and quiting he asked her stay at the shallow end (with a dm) and just breathe. starting with standing up with her face in the water (which he starts all his pool work with anyways) and as she got more relaxed she actually came down to 10ft to join the rest of the class and watched them do their skills while she continued to just breathe.

so by the time she got out of the pool, she was excited about coming back for the next course to redo her pool work and last weekend she showed up alot more relaxed and ready... sometimes it just takes a person a bit longer to be comfortable and ready to take on something new

and if you feel you are being rushed by your instructor - say stop and a reminder that you are the customer and need to be comfortable

cheers
