Has anyone been going out for scallops this year? I'd like to go out with somebody or perhaps find a charter that goes out regularly. I went out today but didn't really find any good beds.

Comments/Suggestions?

We had a lot of luck in early July, but last week our usual spot was pretty bare. As far as tools all you need two hands and a big catch bag.

Dove Canyons in Bos Harbor Sun and where we dropped down, immediately found about 1/2 a dozen. We were lobstering so didn't head towards open sea and went towards shore. The scallops made nice appetizer before the lobsta that evening.

Curious if we would have found more if headed another direction. Where we dropped we were only about 40 feet.

Has anyone ever had the misfortune of getting "snapped" by a scallop? The first time I grabbed them I had NO IDEA how powerful they are in closing their shells. Watch out for that.....

The beds also move. A great spot one year may be bare the next.

Soemtimes they move and sometimes they get eaten! This scallop/lobster talk on the SB is getting me hungry for seafood. I gotta go diving this weekend!
