There is a size limit of 3 1/2". My gloved hand is over 4" so if it overlaps my glove it is legal.
There is a whole lot of "extra" stuff in a shell that we don't keep so 4 full bags equals about 4 quarts of shucked meat (the recreational limit).
The shells are sharp but they don't intentionally bite and about the only way to be cut by the shell is to drag it across your hand like a knife.
