I'm a Fish!
Hi folks, I know the H eclipse bcd has a little upside down compartment on the backplate, but how do you keep a sausage in there, and secure it so it doesn't fall out? and if you have the BCD on, how do you get to the sausage in the back?

sorry for the noob question. just got my BP/W and never had to mess with this sort of thing. usually just keep the sausage hooked on my jacket, or in the pocket. thanks.

Sorta depends on what you are using for a "sausage".

Personally, I would recommend dumping the pocket thingie. Get a good sized DSMB and bungie it to the bottom of your plate. Are you using a drysuit by chance?

roll it up, and stuff it up in there. Leave the double ender attached, and hook that to your left waist d-ring. Now, when you want to deploy, just unclip and pull.

I keep the SMB on a double ender together with my spool and have that clipped off on the butt d-ring. It's out of the way there and I can get to it easily.

The only downside is that you can catch it on stuff... I frequently catch it on the picnic table when I'm setting up my gear ;) Seriously I'm assuming we are talking about OW diving, in which case it should sit out of the way in the water when you are in trim position, basically behind the tank and out of the slipstream.

Once I get pockets on my drysuit it will probably go into one of the pockets.

sorry sausage = SMB
with it hooked on my waist D ring i'm afraid it'll get caught on stuff...

Where do you put your SPG?

S-fold the smb and tuck it into the pocket in the BP pad and clip the bolt snap and spool to the butt D-ring.

Sky, If you get a chance to see one in person, you'll see that the BP pocket has a small block of rubber foam installed at the mouth of the pocket to prevent the SMB from just falling out. Also the pocket's opening at the corners are sewen one inch from the corner to restrict the mouth of the pocket. So if you have a large SMB like the Halcyon 4.5' marker it will stay in place without a problem.

No... I meant WHICH SMB are you using. Many SMBs wont fit comfortably in the pocket thingie. The OPV makes for a nice hard lump! If you have a bag that will fit, then great... go for it.

The bungie option works great... it is the best way to do it that I have found. It is secure, out of the way and easy to access. It also is quick and easy to replace the SMB... in the water or on the boat. The spool (the bag, too) really should go in a pocket but if you don't have one then clip it off seperately to your left waist D-ring. Of course, it will just be a matter of time until it falls off... but then ... you're gonna have that!

I have been "chastised" for wearing my SMB clipped to my left waist D ring. The DIR guru's that sometimes I get in the water with want it on the but d ring. BUT, I wear it on the left waist d ring(I tuck my spg in-between the waist strap and my wetsuit)
Of course, I don't carry a spool either, unless a penetration is planned. I hover under the ladder of the boat, then surface, no "shooting" the bag.
