thanks for the response scubaboard'ers.

I've also found an Agir wing for $250.00 from Salvodiving.com and have heard good things about them as well. Agir has been the least expensive so far and it DOES have the re-inforced bladder. I belive the others do not...at least the models I was looking at.

The Agir is nicely built as well. I was impressed with the ones I looked at last month. But they aren't donuts as has been mentioned.

They are not donut shaped? The wing I saw looked donut shapped but I guess that it is a "tight" horseshoe with the ends comming together pretty close.
Would this matter very much?

JKSteger:
I'm finally going to purchase a wing for use with my backplate setup. I've borrowed a few different wings...all DiveRite. I didn't really like the way that they all seemed to wrap around my tank (using a STA, BTW).

Realistically I don't see myself into doubles until later. I will be generally be diving with my AL80, Freshwater. I'm not into caving so no overhead currently.

I've seen some good deals on the following:

Oxycheq 45# (NOT the sig. series)
Halcyon 36# Pioneer
and
OMS 45# Banded and NOT Banded.

I'm currently leaning tword the Halcyon 36# Pioneer but have heard good things about the Oxycheq too.
Is one really better than the other (Halcyon vs Oxycheq) or is it a coin toss?

Thanks in advance,
Jeremy
I went with Oxycheq for my first wing. Patrick Duffy the owner Oxycheq was very responsive to all my questions and was happy to talk with me. (call the phone number on the Oxycheq website, Patrick often answers the phone himself). As for price, I purchased through Larry at Scuba Toys and had it in a couple of days. With Scuba Toys' Scuba Board member discount it was substantially less than what I would have paid had I gone with Halcyon off the shelf from my local Halcyon dealer.

Well, to some they find it easier to dump air while in a head-down position. Reason being is, if the air is on one side of the horseshoe and the the dump is on the other, air isn't going to be released. Where as with a donut the bottom part of the wing is connected so air doesn't get trapped on one side or the other.

PerroneFord:
I have a Pioneer 27, I have used an Oxy wing, and a Dive Rite wing. different sizes of all though. If you don't plan on doing the GUE/DIR thing, the Oxy wings are very very nice. I loved the one I used. Quality was very good, it was streamlined, and felt "right" in the water.

You'll do fine with any of these options. For some reason, I don't care for the Dive Rite wings too much myself.

Perrone,
Went through Fundies in October and Oxycheq is definately DIR compliant. I have the Signature Series from Scuba Toys and its a great wing!

The wing wrapped because it was too large for the single and/or it was actually a doubles-intended wing.

FWIW .. when you do switch to doubles, buy a wing intended for doubles. There is really no such thing as a double/single wing; there is a tradeoff somewhere and it likely won't be to your benefit or ultimate liking.

45# is much more than necessary for a single AL80 in fresh water. I'd suggest either the 36# or even a 30# if possible.

And I'll put in a plug for DeepSeaSupply (I own an LCD30) as well as Halcyon (I own one of those too) and Oxycheq (I own one of those as well).

Agreed here. I'll be using a 40# for twin AL80s, and 2 deco bottles (when I get there). I use a 27# right now for my AL80 in freshwater and my wing is never even half full unless I'm on the surface. I think an 18 would get it done for me with that config.

Using a 40# Oxycheg Sig wings.Very solidly made.No tacoing during dive.Very streamline.Love this wing!!!You can't go wrong with Oxy!
