I'm thinking of joining the Sand Dollar's August 1 trip to Catalina. I have limited time in SoCal for diving on July 30 -August 1. So, I'm leaning toward the Sand Dollar on August 1. Also, the Sand Dollar appears to be the only boat which has tanks and weights (and Nitrox, which doesn't hurt either, since I'm certified for Enriched Air dives). Any thoughts/reviews of the Sand Dollar would be appreciated. Also, are any of you planning any boat dives during that period, even if not on the Sand Dollar? I prefer to go with a ScubaBoard buddy, though the weights, tanks and Nitrox on board are pretty tempting... :dontknow:

Can't offer myself as a buddy that weekend, but I can give you a good resource to find a boat. This site has a great list of trips and links to all the boats in SoCal. In my experience most (if not all) of them have at least tanks and weights; very many have Nitrox fills.

I too wish I could join you but I will be out of town that weekend....yes most of our boats offer tanks and wieghts...here is another source for boat info that I use:
California Dive Boats : The Official Page and we all have our favorites...for LA area mine are the Magician, Great Escape, the Sundiver family. SD area: Humbolt, Marrisa, & LoisAnn. Ventura area: Specture and Peace. I know you will enjoy our waters no matter what/where you go...enjoy!! :D

It's been about a year since I've been on the Sand Dollar, but I have no problem recommending them. The crew is fun to be around, seem to know the spots to visit, and do a good job.

The food was super fantastic, and the boat was pretty much what I expect for a dive boat.

I give them a thumbs up!

I was thinking about diving Catalina on August 1 aboard Sundiver Express. It is 2 dives and includes tanks and maybe weights. But, I am open to another boat. PM me and let's discuss.

I'll be getting off the boat so you can get on. I love the Sand Dollar, me and my friends go every year. Crew is great! Food is good and plentiful, there is always something to eat. Fills are problem free and prompt. It's no frills, you get a bunk with a curtain, but never had a problem sleeping on board. I understand they redid the galley since I was on last. As for the dives, I have never been disappointed.
