May I ask - best carrier to fly over??

Heading that way in February/March. I was looking at Roatan, but it's a bit restrictive with the time frames. And, San Pedro Sula is cheaper from LAX.

Ferries? The turn me kind of green but for diving, heck, I'll do it....

Thank you in advance!

You can either fly direct from SAP airport, OR take the Hedman Alas bus to La Ceiba ($23) direct from the airport to La Ceiba. It's a 3 hour bus ride in a very nice bus, and then take the Utila ferry from La Ceiba.

Most, if not all of the planes go to Utila from La Ceiba. You can either take a bus or plane from San Pedro Sula to La Ceiba and plane or ferry to Utila. When you add the cost of transport and more importantly time to get to Utila, that makes up for some of the extra expense to get to Roatan. Both places are nice, but I suggest you factor in both time and money into the equation.

:no:Time frames or costs of flights are simply not a valid argument for Utila over Roatan. Sure flying direct to RTB may be restrictive BUT you cannot fly direct to Utila from the US at all so how restricive is that? You could just as easilly take any of those same cheaper flights into SAP and head to Roatan rather than Utila for the same or less, Your comparing direct for RTB and multiple connections to the Utila is Apples and Oranges, I believe if you wanted to make connections there are even more flight options direct to RTB from SAP at better prices or you could also make the trip to Cieba and ferry to Roatan as well. I am sure Utila has things many folks like over Roatan but cost of getting there and scheduling would not be one of them

cm airlines leaves san pedro sula at 3pm every saturday arriving utila at 3.30ish, and leaves utila at 8.30am arriving san pedro sula at 9ish. $212 round trip. alice hill at worldwide travel on utila is a bking agent that i always use.

Your choice of transport will more than likely depend on what time you arrive in San Pedro and if you are prepared to spend a night in La Ceiba (better than doing the same in San Pedro if you have a choice). The last Hedman Alas bus to depart San Pedro Sula that will make the afternoon ferry departure at 4pm is the 10:30am bus. Given time to get out of the airport and taxi to the bus you probably need to be arriving by 8:30am to 9am at the latest.

There are other bus companies but Hedman Alas is the best (safest, most reliable, most comfortable) one by far.

You can fly to La Ceiba every day of the week and a cab or private hire minibus will cost around $150 to make the 3.5hr journey.
