I'm coming to work in La Jolla in mid-April and would like to get a few dives in. I read elsewhere that the weather might not be conducive to shore diving? Should I be looking for boat dives instead?

If shore dives, anyone want to show a fellow SB member around on April 18-19?

I've done shore diving events in that timeframe. It really depends on what's happening in the northern Pacific, and consequently with the swell.

A boat dive on a deeper site will certainly be a better bet that a shore dive. I'll leave it to others to rag on the perils of pick-up boat buddies.

Everyone will be depressed from taxes, so some of dive clubs will have events scheduled that weekend as part of a national recovery effort. :-)

Cheers,
Dave Ambrose

If the swell is out of the SW then LaJolla COVE is a MUST dive. I love this site, kelp, rocks, sand, etc it has it all. Grass park, restrooms, not a lot of stairs, 3 steps from the stairs and in the water, 2 steps, past the surf zone, 4 steps, in waist to shoulder deep water and diving. But if the swell is out of the NW (winter time) then this place gets hammered.

Boat or beach tough to go wrong in San Diego.
