IF you subscribe to the "I am responsible for my own safety and profile" school of thought (which I do), then I agree there is no "gross" neglegence. But from what I have seen in my diving experiences with them: disorganization, short surface intervals, marginal services, frequent boat issues, etc., there are better choices in that area. I've been with better ops, and will probably avoid them in the future.

That is the school of thought I have always had. Along with my profession, I always plan for being on my own while in sticky situations, and hope that I am not. Plan for the worst, hope for the best. If a buddy is able to help, all the better. I have been dissapointed before when I expected someone to be there for me. I guess that I need to start exploring other ops! They are, actually, the only op that I have dived with in San Diego. Never had any boat problems while on board with them, but its only been a hand full of times, maybe 6-8 trips. Any recommendations on betters ops in the area?

I have dived on the DnDII many times since 1998. No gross neglegence there in my opinion.

DnDII in years past isn't the issue... it's the current ownership. They've been in place for about a year. I dove with the current owners in March 2009, and the previous owners in September 2008. Massive difference.

Care to elaborate? In your opinion, better or worse now?

Worse. That's the rather obvious conclusion of this thread, isn't it?

Yes, but I've learned a lot from SB, especially with people's opinions, and one thing was not to assume what I think to be the case, actually is. :D

Just to be clear, I have no idea what role, if any, the current management had in the accident, but I know that for me, one trip with them was enough for me to decide I didn't want to dive with them again. The reports I've heard since, and this thread have convinced me I made the right decision. Everyone makes their own decisions, though...
