Get there REALLY early. If the swell is out of the north, dive somewhere else. Stay off Razor Reef, it eats divers..... I can't dive midweek but wish i could the cove rocks on a good day.

I second the "REALLY" early part, the parking is extremely limited. We've sometimes had better luck coming in from the North on Prospect - just before you get into the downtown area go right on Coast, it's one way down to the Cove, because there's parking just north of the cove that's only accessible from that side. And it's as close or closer to the cove than the park parking to the south. So in effect you double your chances of getting a space doing it this way. (does this make sense?)
If you go through town and then down to Coast, you're limited to the parking directly in front of the Cove and the Scripps park, since there's a turnaround just past the north end of the cove. It's only about 30-40 spaces and you're competing with the kite fliers, tourists and everyone else.
See the attached image for more detail, the Cove is just left of center at the top, down in the lower right corner, right above the Google is the right turn onto Coast.

Edit: We've dove just maybe 2-300 yds. past the Childrens Beach further down Coast when we've been blown out at the Cove, there's more parking and there's a good entry between the flat rocks. There's a couple of huge rock formations in about 40-50' of water and if the tides right, there's a venturi effect so you get sucked out between them. And there's little plants growing on them so if you do get bashed into the rocks, it's cushioned. It's a great ride. It's just to the south of the point past the Childrens Beach. If you get to Wipeout Beach, you've missed it.
The entry is to the left of the Seal Rock title on the second image, maybe 1/2" (on the picture) to the south. You can see some sandy strips between the rocks. The ones closer to the point looked a little too rocky for us to attempt entry there. And actually it's closer to the parallel parking area.
