I'll be in San Deigo for a seminar and have Sunday the 22 of Feb. free. Would it be worth it to do a dive? What are water temps, viz, who to dive with, not taking my gear so I need to rent, what about the Coronados, seals, kelp?

Thanks
Caymaniac

Someone from San Diego can give you more current advice, but take a look at www.divebums.com for a general idea of conditions. Check the visitors tab. Trips out to the wrecks are morning or afternoon trips, but the Coronados trips are all day, if that matters to you. Personally, I love the cookies served on the Lois Ann...

Too bad you aren't free on the 21st -- you could join us at the Avalon Harbor U/W Cleanup on Catalina.

Call the folks who run the LoisAnn http://www.loisann.com/contact.htm and get on a short trip out to the Ruby E and the Yukon, two wrecks a few miles off the coast.

These guys http://www.gottadive.com/dive_conditions.htm
also do trips.

Personally, I'd suggest looking in the following order:

- Point Loma Kelp, the deeper the better (outer edge of the kelp is either a wall or steep slope going from 60-75fsw (kelp) to 95-105fsw (no kelp))

- Yukon / Ruby E

- shore dive up in La Jolla (shallow rocky reefs, kelp) -- but only if the surf is cooperating

- the Coronados (move this one up if you're a freak about pinnipeds)
