Can anyone give feedback on diving San Andreas Island (Caribbean, part of Columbia)?

In your previous posts you stipulated shore diving. None of any worth here that I am aware. Diving is interesting, island over run with vacationers from SA and money from less reputable forms of work.

RoatanMan,
Yes I previously asked about shore diving, but that does not rule out someplace if it is a great dive location.

Thanks for the information.

I spent a week diving San Andrés with San Andrés Divers. They are located along the west coast, about halfway down the island. They will come pick you up in town.

I did both boat dives and shore dives. Both were excellent, but most noteworthy was a challenging shore dive on the windward coast. It was a wall dive absolutely equal anything I've dove where I live in Cayman, with a nice wreck in the shallows at the top of the wall.

San Andrés has some Canadian tourists in the winter season, but otherwise it is mostly Colombians travelling from the mainland. There are occasional charters direct from Cayman that make it an appealing option for me.

spent a week there.
had a blast.

boat diving only.

I know you posted a year ago . . . but just now in trip planning phase . . . not a lot of info on San Andres Isla . . .In Cayman the dive shops are really helpful telling you how to do/get to shore dives. Are the shops as kind in San Andres? We would like to do both shore diving and boat diving. Thanks!

Mostly boat diving in San Andres. I have done some shore diving on the western side of the Island. There is a reef/ledge almost the whole 8 miles length of the island anywhere from 100ft off the shore to about 200ft. Not really recommended being the whole western shoreline is coral rock, with a few spots the islanders have concreted to get in and out of the sea. There is also a great wreck on the western side in about 30-35 ft of water with the mast sticking out of the water on low tide great for UW photos. If you get a chance to dive the Blue Wall, it is a must, one of the best wall dives I have ever dived. Conditions have to be prefect to for the dive ops to go here, it is on the windward side of the island and usually to rough to dive. On the northern tip there are numerous shallow reefs from 10 to 30 ft beaming full of life in between reef patch’s is a sand bottom usually full of stingray.
My friend Jorge Sanchez, a freelance instructor/DM, has great wisdom of the island and dive site and can always get the best prices for you
