When the first Walmart opened in Mexico (Mexico City) it sold 2 years of inventory in as many weeks. The locals voted with their money. It has been some years ago that Sam's and Chedraui opened in Playa. Before then there was only the Super San Fransisco. A truly dismal place to shop. So yeah, the locals are happy they have access to quality goods and better prices.

I don't understand.. Sam's Club (Walmart) thinks enough about the growth in Cozumel that they open a store there and yet Continental cuts back on their flights from one every day to Saturday and Sunday only.. same for Bonaire (two VERY popular dive islands) BUT.. they keep their daily flights all year round to Grand Cayman and Belize ? I can understand Grand Cayman (although I've been looking at the flights for a while now and there always seems to be plenty of seats on their daily back and forth flights) but Belize can't be as busy as Cozumel and Bonaire can it..:dontknow:

Maybe Sam's doesn't rely on divers for sales. Coz does a lot of pod people tourism and the business's that service them have driven more growth on the island.
