Hi,

New to diving, and likely a while away from buying a computer (wallet's already emptying too quickly with this sport!), but doing some reading for when the time comes.

Question- I'm looking through a Suunto catalog, and the sampling rates for all but the Stinger go no faster than 20 seconds, this seems long to me, esp when acscending.

Comments? Am I missing something? (aside from the $ for a Stinger...)

Interested in hearing what the sampling rates are for other brands/models.

Safe splashing,
Matt.

the Vyper can go to a 10 second sampling rate...

I'm not sure why you want a quicker sampling rate anyway. If it is too high, raising your arm quickly in the water column might trigger an ascent alarm, for example.

I might be wrong here, but if I remember correctly, the sampling rate is only used for the log.

The minimum is 10 seconds. Setting it to longer intervals gives you more time before you start loosing dives from the internal log.

I think (don't remember wherer I read it) the computer itself samples once a second regardless.

ERP once bubbled...

You are right :D

The Vytec and Stinger can be set for 10 seconds, mine are. It will give you more detail when graphing your dives if you set the sampling rate to 10 seconds. That is for the memory. ERP is right about the actual sampling rate for the instrument, it is 1 second.

That makes sense, wondered if it was something like.

Thanks!
Matt.

I learn something new every day....Actually, I learned two things...The item above, and to read the manual...LOL

I would recommend to keep it on 10 seconds. you will learn a lot from your dive profiles, buoyance etc by having as much data as possible. yes you lose some memory, but what you gain by having short intervals far outweighs the differences.

Whether you set your sampling rate for 10, 20 or 30 secs

Do it before you use it the first time and keep it there. If you
change it afterwards it will change the dive times on any dives already downloaded, or at least it did on mine.
