Hey,
So i went to my lds looking for a bc. I checked out the seaquest black diamond, but then i started to look at the bp/w's that were on display. So i was talking to the owner and then i asked how much a bp/w would cost and he estimated around $750. I was shocked. I thought it was way overpriced, so i did my homework and checked out online sites. I came across the Salvo Agir 38 lb. Doubles SS System for $500. BIG difference in price. Has anyone used this rig and if so, do you like it? Also, is there anyway that i can setup the bp for a single tank. I am not quite ready for doubles yet, but i would like to venture there soon.

Thanks,
Drew

thanks for the fast reply, but can you put doubles on the bp. the owner at my lds was talking about this thing that gets attatched to a bp for doubles that allows you to use a single tank.

He's probabaly talking about a STA (single tank adaptor). According to the Agir website, the Blackbird 36 rig (PART NR: STW36) includes one.

Imho, you shouldn't use a wing designed for doubles with single tank.

so if i bought a rig with a 38lb wing and a ss single bp and i wanted to switch to doubles, i would have to buy a whole new rig?

Nope, you just buy a new wing (with more lift for doubles), and attach it to your backplate. The BP, harness, D-rings, attached accessories like lights and knife are all interchangeable.

However, when you go to doubles, you will have to get out your wallet for tanks, valves, isolator, bands, regulators, tech classes and chiropractic treatments. eyebrow

Well the 38lb rig (assuming you are talking about: http://www.salvodiving.com/inc/pdetail?v=1&pid=1313) IS designed for doubles - you should get an additional single tank wing and STA in order to dive single; you use the same bp and harness for both.

Another point to note is that, depending on what kind of tank and exposure protection you use and the amount of weight you need (+ additional equipment), a 38lb doubles wing may not provide enough lift - I am assuming that you dive in cold water since you are located in New Jersey.

The Agir website has this to say about the Habrok wing 38:

"Capacity 39.5lbs Suitable for 2x7 to maximum 2x12 (depending on weight of backplate and accessories e.g. lights and/or deco cylinders."

there are wings, in particular the dive-rite rec wing, that can be used with both singles or small doubles. some people love it, but the general consensus from threads i've read here is that it works fine for both but is not great for either.

it's probably best for you to either a) buy a singles rig and then find a used doubles wing for cheap, or b) buy a doubles rig and then find a used singles wing for cheap.

there are lots of plates and wings out there with small differences, so i suggest you look around before making your decision. for example, wings come with (inner) bladders in U and O shapes. Some people prefer one over the other, others don't think it makes a big difference, but you should do your research.

I dive the Agir 36 pound singles wing by salvo , its great . But if you want to move to doubles you will need to buy a different wing , my Evolve wing bolts right on to the Salvo plate and im good to go. Get the right gear for the job , this means both a singles and doubles wing.
