Diver dies at Cermaq salmon farm
Commercial diver was doing contract work for Cermaq Chile.
ITV Patagonia reports that Chilean Authorities have confirmed that the death of a 43-year-old commercial diver, who suffered a heart problem while diving at a salmon farm, Laura Norte, located in the Seno Skyring, southern Chile.
The site belongs to Cermaq and commercial diver was doing contract work, employed from the company Scuba SPA.
The diver is believed to have got into difficulty at 4 pm on Wednesday. An ambulance was called out, but his death was confirmed at 5 pm.
In a conference, Governor of Punta Arenas, Sergio Valenzuela said that authorities are finding out “whether he had authorisation or not and the suitability of the deceased commercial diver,
Homicide Brigade Detectives and forensic experts from the Criminalistics Laboratory are currently investigating the circumstances of the man’s death.
In a statement provided to BioBioChile, Cermaq Chile wrote:
“Once informed of what has happened, the company’s emergency plan was activated to carry out the necessary expertise and inform the authorities, who are conducting the relevant investigations to clarify the causes of the event.”
“Cermaq deeply regrets this event and expresses its deepest condolences to the relatives and close of the worker of the company Scuba SpA,” wrote Cermaq.
