Does this affect the diving right now, such as vis? I was planning on checking out LBTS for the first time during the first week of March.

Chris I just dove off Datura Ave. this past Monday the 24th. The beach was as Jenny described: a beehive of activity. Underwater it was a little milky but I've experienced much worse there w nothing going on. Still saw two greenies, a couple nurse sharks and a whole lot of tropicals. Sweet little dive!

i dove LBTS south of the pier last weekend to the ledge and although the water conditions were great the horizontal vis was sort of milky... still wonder how this is going to make the beach better.

Or how the turtles will fare. :(
Previous data after a beach re nourishment shows a huge decline in nesting females. :( We had a banner year last year. LBTS and points north have a higher concentration of nests than south of Port Everglades.

i have noticed that the new sand is much harder, perhaps due the heavy machinery compacting it...i can see where this could make it more difficult for the turtles to dig their nests.

From what I understand it's not the compacting but rather the sand is different. This years nesting females took last year off (and maybe the year before also).
