THAD:Anyone have any feedback on Saba. Best operators and places to stay?
vetdiver:My husband and I are headed that way in a month - we're staying at Orchid Cottage (at Juliana's) and diving with Sea Saba. I have heard awesome things about both - we can't wait. I will post a report when we return.
pilot fish:That is exactly where we stayed and I dove with. You will love the cottage. The shower is a hoot. The food at that cafe at Juliana's is mediocre but good for breakfast. Sea Saba is a good dive op too. Shark Shoals is a great dive. Enjoy.
.
vetdiver:I swear, we had this EXACT SAME exchange about a month ago...ooh, freaky....
We will absolutely have a great time for everyone. Let's all hope it stops snowing long enough for the flight to take off.... (I'm headed down to a local pool tonight to try out my brand-spankin'-new SeaQuest Libra...which I have not able to test in the ocean either of the last 2 weekends I wanted to do a quick shore dive due to the ridiculous weather!!)
Thad - promise to give you a full report when we return.
vetdiver:Pilotfish - I am tellin' you, we had this EXACT EXCHANGE!!! Deja vu.... We will definitely try to get up to Willards once - we're doing a split vacation in Saba and Statia, a delayed honeymoon (we, ahem, eloped last June and haven't taken the all-important honeymoon yet, so this is it) - planning to do one romantic (publicly romantic, anyways) meal on each island, so I thought Willards might be the choice for that after your plug. Gin House on Statia with their Michelin-starred Belgian chef.
Thad - There are a bunch of people from the Scuba Diving site that just went to the Explorer - they have a bunch of recent photos and reviews posted - looks nice! I think there was a review here a while ago, too. I will let you know what we think of the land thing - I know Statia's diving is not supposed to be as good, but there are a greater number of wrecks there...and after diving dry in the frigid Boston area the last few months, we'll be happy just being in warm water!! We've got 3 dives/day booked and will look into hiking, etc in the evenings. For Saba, I have heard awesome things about the cottages, specifically, at Juliana's, and the price wasn't much more for Orchid Cottage, which supposedly has an outdoor rock shower thing (Pilotfish???). We'll be making our own cocktails, as well!
