THAD:
Anyone have any feedback on Saba. Best operators and places to stay?

Juliana's Hotel is a great place to stay and SeaSaba is a great dive op. Even if they have 10 divers they will put out two boats rather than put all 10 on one. There are great pinnacles and abundant marine life. The island is very quiet, safe and clean. One of my fav dive spots. You need any further help let me know.

My husband and I are headed that way in a month - we're staying at Orchid Cottage (at Juliana's) and diving with Sea Saba. I have heard awesome things about both - we can't wait. I will post a report when we return.

That is exactly where we stayed and I dove with. You will love the cottage. The shower is a hoot. The food at that cafe at Juliana's is mediocre but good for breakfast. Sea Saba is a good dive op too. Shark Shoals is a great dive. Enjoy.

I swear, we had this EXACT SAME exchange about a month ago...ooh, freaky....

We will absolutely have a great time for everyone. Let's all hope it stops snowing long enough for the flight to take off.... (I'm headed down to a local pool tonight to try out my brand-spankin'-new SeaQuest Libra...which I have not able to test in the ocean either of the last 2 weekends I wanted to do a quick shore dive due to the ridiculous weather!!)

Thad - promise to give you a full report when we return.

Good BC, SeaQuest.

You will have a very relaxing time at the Orchid Cottage at Juliana's. Will you go to Willard for a drink, or dinner, at sunset? You will love that. Let me know when you get back how you liked it?

Sounds like Julliane's is the place to stay - curious about the food looks like it is top notch and fresh! I was thinking of bringing my own cocktail fixings to save$$
while enjoying my ocean view in the evening. I'm looking forward to some major star gazing!

Anyone been on the Carribean Explorer out of St. Maarten/Kitt it looks pretty nice!

Pilotfish - I am tellin' you, we had this EXACT EXCHANGE!!! Deja vu.... We will definitely try to get up to Willards once - we're doing a split vacation in Saba and Statia, a delayed honeymoon (we, ahem, eloped last June and haven't taken the all-important honeymoon yet, so this is it) - planning to do one romantic (publicly romantic, anyways) meal on each island, so I thought Willards might be the choice for that after your plug. Gin House on Statia with their Michelin-starred Belgian chef.

Thad - There are a bunch of people from the Scuba Diving site that just went to the Explorer - they have a bunch of recent photos and reviews posted - looks nice! I think there was a review here a while ago, too. I will let you know what we think of the land thing - I know Statia's diving is not supposed to be as good, but there are a greater number of wrecks there...and after diving dry in the frigid Boston area the last few months, we'll be happy just being in warm water!! We've got 3 dives/day booked and will look into hiking, etc in the evenings. For Saba, I have heard awesome things about the cottages, specifically, at Juliana's, and the price wasn't much more for Orchid Cottage, which supposedly has an outdoor rock shower thing (Pilotfish???). We'll be making our own cocktails, as well!

Doub't you'll get me in the great lakes let alone when frozen! Speaking of Boston area. We dove in Lake Winepasaukee with friends (no DM here) from Manchester 2 years ago looking for a sunken ship. The five of us Me, Bob, Mike, Tracey and Ellen decide to go down meet at the bottom then take off toward the wreck, Ellen (Mrs. Bob) - to pull the flag. It was really a joke because cattle boat Bob (Air Sucker) buddy in TCI hit the bottom and took off like a rocket towards who knows what. Ellen was stuck at the top withhout enough weight. Mike and I followed Bob lost Bob then found Bob. We couldn't see much certainly no wreck just a bass or 2. So I point up and signal them to wait and I surface. Got my bearings and went back down. Oh no! nobody's here - thanks guys - so we got split up - it was like a blizzard down there no viz. Ends up my rented regulator compass didn't work and I ended up in the middle of the channel with 20-35 foot boats wizzing over my head. Luckly I made it to some guy's boat dock and got up to look around. Ends up I made it clear across the channel and the boat at this point (anchor not holding well) was drifting in towards the coast guard station - no one else at surface yet! So I make my way across the no wake zone when the coast guard shows up and spots me. Luckly I waive down some nice fellas who taxi me to the Cobalt and I'm safe but the Harbor Patrol is pissed...but no ticket. Eventually Bob and Mike show up and then the girls from the opposite direction (with the dive flag). Not as good diving as I hope to have in Saba.
