The Wife just agreed to another dive trip in March to Saba. Trying to find accurate water temps for that time. Also wondering what suggestions are out there when ones suit ( 3mm full ) is not thick enough. I'm being told a 5mm is perfect but dont think I would use one after this trip. Maybe a vest or shorty would be money better spent ? Does anyone dive shorty over full suit with both zippers in the back or vests that they really like? It seems like it might be uncomfortable ?

Hi catskill diver,

I find a hooded vest adds a lot of flexibility to both my 3 and 5 mm full suits and adds several degrees to the comfortable range. I generally also take a hood with me if less added warmth is needed. Fexibility is the key for me. I often lend out what is extra and make friends.

Enjoy Saba, I really need to get there,

Craig

I've had pretty good luck with my 2mm hooded vest inside of my fullsuit. I prefer the type with a zipper along one side of the body. It's still a pain to get in and get out of but probably easier than if without the zipper.

You can also wear a 3mm front zip jacket (shorty) over your fullsuit. The zipper runs diagonally from the chest to the left leg.

Both my 2mm hooded vest and 3mm front zip are brand name EVO, sold by Divers Direct. Not sure if they sell the hooded vest with the side zipper anymore.

My past experience with Caribbean waters is that it doesn't fluctuate much: usually between 78 and 80.

Thanks guys! our 3mm is all we have at the present time. they have done great from 79 playa cenotes (on the chilly side ) to partly unzipped in aruba at 82. Diving 12x in 5 days - dont want to get cold, the op in Saba said everyone is diving 5mm and has me wondering ? My pinnicle suit has a 10 mm spine pad so doubling up a regular shorty wont work. I will check out the 2 / 3 mm front zip shorty - I guess i could it use solo in abc islands later in the year. Although I just found some 5mm's for under $150- Very tempting - CD
